Although it looks like a traditional pub from the outside, The Dogstar is actually a large three-story space that transforms nightly into a vibrant and much-loved DJ club that attracts a casual but somewhat edgy urban crowd.
While the downstairs area is focused mainly on dancing, the two upper levels are often given over to an ever-changing schedule of live events.
The entire space, however, features a charming décor of studied scruffiness that is a cross between an English pub and a Wild West saloon with its glass chandeliers, velvet balloon curtains, red mirror-lined walls, deer antlers, and collection of curios.
Plush leather sofas, long wooden tables, and intimate seating areas tucked into the corners provide ample space for lounging and conversing with friends, and create an overall atmosphere of easygoing camaraderie among the amiable patrons.
Weekends are especially popular when the dazzling light shows and huge speakers thumping out the beats of local DJ talent create an energetic environment as guests move to the beats of funk, hip-hop, rock, and reggae.
A bit more low key during the week when only the ground floor is open, Dogstar is nonetheless an ideal place to have a midweek drink and catch up with friends to an excellent soundtrack.
For something a bit different, try the bi-weekly Sunday comedy nights. It’s a great way to end the weekend on a high.
