Party Earth Review: Often a second home to social activists brainstorming their next big campaign, Passing Clouds is an eclectic gypsy bar that draws a clientele of social castaways, hippies, and vagabonds. Based on a concept of “conscious partying,” the space is known for delivering funky nights out that highlight a particular social issue, usually through events ranging from spoken word performances and free film screenings to yoga classes and community soup kitchens. A small, makeshift graffiti stencil of the venue’s name on the door greets the flow of hippies, the first clue to the bar’s grassroots mentality and DIY attitude, added to by the flea market décor of roughed-up furniture, throw rugs, patchwork pillows, travel trinkets, African masks, and fairy lights. A small corner bar on the first floor gets the crowd of bohemians and musicians juiced up for swing classes and open jam sessions, while a spacious upstairs loft offers more second-hand sofas where activists kick back to reggae and tropical beats. The epitome of laid back with a friendly opium den vibe, Passing Clouds is a true haven for dreamers, space cadets, and Bob Marley fans looking for a down-to-earth and free-spirited zen lounge. ... read full review |
