Party Earth Sunset Strip: Café del Mar, Café Mambo, Savannah Beach Club Review

The Scene

Popularly known as the Sunset Strip, this collection of western facing waterside Cafes is Ibiza's undisputed center of sunset-watching.

Popularly known as the Sunset Strip, this collection of western facing waterside cafés is Ibiza’s undisputed center of sunset-watching. And firmly planted in the middle of it all is Café del Mar, the establishment that started the tradition.

Now comprised of two different structures, the original space is a shiny little café resplendent with white tiles and mirrors, while the newer space is a hulking wooden building just next door, complete with decks, sails, and oversized windows.

The café also shares with its neighbors – Café Mambo and Savannah Beach Club – a kilometer-long deck suspended over the rocks.

As the sunset hour approaches, everyone from jet-setters to hippies arrives in droves to fill the deck and find a good seat from which to watch what is touted as the best sunset on the island, if not on the planet.

A generally younger and more casual crowd gathers on the rocks below to enjoy the spectacle over a beer or bottle of wine, which also puts them in the best seats for watching the nightly pyrotechnic performances that include fire eaters, fire dancers, and fire jugglers.

The performances and the majestic sunsets, combined with the chilled-out atmosphere, mark the perfect ending to the day before the Ibizan party cycle begins all over again.

Tip from Lucas:

Pick up some beer at the supermarket and sit on the rocks in front of the cafés. Not only is it a cheaper option, but the location provides front row seating for the sunset and a great place to hang with groups of friends to end the long day.

  • Crowd

Dressy and well-to-do in the cafés, more laid back and bohemian on the beach, all ages.

  • Entertainment / Music

Ambient classic soft pop hits and new-age sounds. Pyrotechnic performers on the beach.

  • Food / Miscellaneous

Food served in the cafés except Café del Mar. Reservations recommended for sunset dinner. There is also a supermarket in the area for those who prefer to picnic on the beach.

  • Prices

Food prices varies by location. Beer €5.50+, mixed drinks €10+, shots €4+, water €4.50+.

  • What to Wear / Dress Code

    Casual.

  • Hot Nights / When to Go

    Any evening at sunset.

  • Close By

Mint Lounge Bar (C/Lepanto, 3) on the northern end of the strip is a more relaxed and affordable café.

Amazing! Don't forget to stay for the sunset!

Our hostel was conveniently located blocks from this strip! We couldn't help but going to Savannah every night and to Mambo a couple of times. Savannah: Decent price... For Ibiza, good crowd, very easy to make friends hah which is nice in Ibiza, overall it's a great experience, we felt welcome and a beautiful view of the beach! Mambo: Slightly more expensive than Savannah but more popular, we felt that the people at mambo were just a bit more snobby than savannah so that's why we went to savannah more times. Also both bars are pretty much staffed with brits or germans. But the Best part were the sunsets that were stunning! And having everyone clapping while watching it! This is the spot to go to during the day/afternoon before the clubs.
Must See!

While your friends are giving you tips on Ibiza telling you about all the amazing clubs and what nights to go and what DJ's to see, the Sunset Strip is usually left out, but don't worry you'll end up there anyway. This is the perfect spot to check the beautiful Ibiza sunset while grabbing a drink or 10 and watching the flame dancers performing on the beach while music bumps loudly from the clubs on the water. After the sunset (because lets face it, no one eats dinner before 9) grab dinner or drinks at one of the cafe/clubs and start the night early. There are also lots of promoters walking around selling discount club tickets so it's a great way to start the night- grab dinner and drinks and then head out for a wild night of partying.
NOTHING BEATS THIS EXPERIENCE

You have not truly experienced Ibiza unless you've seen the picture perfect sunset. Nothing beats having dinner and drinks while watching the sunset and listening to amazing music from some of the world's best DJs. My favorite on the strip is Cafe Mambo. They have amazing food and drinks. The normally do a 7PM seating so you get the "full experience". I recommend callin ahead of time and making a reservation so they can accommodate your party. Pacha normally holds their pre-party there, so whoever is spinning that night at Pacha usually plays a guest set at Cafe Mambo. I went for the Swedish House Mafia closing party, Subliminal Sessions closing party with Eric Morillo, and Pete Tong party and they were all rediculous!! Sparklers, dancers, flames, the whole 9. Definitely make it a point to check it out.
Best sunset in the world, great place to start the night

This venue has everything - food, drinks pyrotechnics, club promoters, and of course the most beautiful sunset on earth. Plan to start your night here with a drink or 2 as you watch the sun set over the water and as the last bit of sun disappears over the island make sure you start cheering with the crowd around you. You're celebrating the end of another fantastic day at the beach and the start to another wild night in Ibiza. Meet up with friends, get the party started in San Antonio, talk with promoters and finalize your plans for the night!
Almost better than what happens later...

Absolutely unmissable part of the Ibiza experience. Bring your own drinks if you want the cheapest option, though a jug of sangria to share from Café Mambo won't cost you too much. The best DJs often play as the sun goes down, so you can see them for free. But since there's space and light, you'll actually get a chance to meet and talk to some fellow partiers. The whole crowd cheers at sunset, and anyone who's anyone is there every night. If you can afford a little flexibility to your schedule, avoid buying the night's club tickets until everyone gathers at Sunset Strip. The same guys trying to sell you tickets on the beach earlier will be bartering them off much more cheaply by then.
