Photographer Brassaï and his encounter with Matisse Description

This bequest includes sixty eight photographs, one sculpture, Vénus blanche III, the illustrated book, ‘Transmutations’, and five drawings (Seated female nude, left profile, leaning on the left arm and head and shoulders of nude woman; seated nude woman from the side, arms on head; study of seated, nude woman, left profile; full-face nude man, hand on hips, legs apart; back-view of nude woman, leaning forward towards her right foot).

Madame Gilberte Brassaï’s generous bequest has enriched the museum’s photographic collection, which now has three hundred and fifty-seven prints. In pursuit of its objective of becoming a centre of reference on the painter’s work, the ‘Musée Matisse’ regularly mounts temporary exhibitions highlighting this collection composed of the work of famous photographers who all photographed the artist.
