Cannes, French Riviera –
An upscale yet unpretentious bar and restaurant, Au Bureau offers a French and American menu to a posh clientele that gathers in the early evening to dive into enormous hamburgers and buckets of fries – with a knife and fork, of course.
Despite the bar’s well-heeled overtones, patrons show up in hip but casual garb, perhaps taking a cue from the waitresses who scamper around in light pink cowboy hats and tight t-shirts.
The laid-back vibe is further enhanced by the ambient rock music and the continuous sports shown on the flat-screen TVs throughout the venue, while a semi-outdoor terrace features dark wood furnishings and modern low lamps that create a relaxed atmosphere in which fashionable young professionals can let off steam and share large cocktails served in over-sized martini glasses.
Successfully combining a sophisticated clientele with a low-key environment, Au Bureau definitely fits the bill for anyone in search of pre-club drinks in a hip pub setting – and with a great view of the port to boot.
Well-heeled but accessible, 20s and 30s.
Mostly rock, some hip-hop.
Menu of French and American dishes, including excellent burgers. Happy Hour daily 6–8pm.
Meals €15–€16+. Beer €5–€8, mixed drinks €8.
Casual.
Weekends to start out the night.
