ARMEN Festival Description

ARMEN Festival - Special Event in French Riviera.

The ARMEN Festival is an annual art, sailing, and waterskiing competition held in March by the Nautical Society of Saint-Tropez in different locations in the French Riviera. The event is named ARMEN as an abbreviation for Art Mer Neige, which translates to Art Sea Snow.

Created in 1978 by René Perrier, the ARMEN Festival is a ten-day competition that begins with sailing races from Saint-Tropez to Cavalaire and races within the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. Following the sailing, members of each crew compete in a slalom water-ski race along the coast of Saint-Tropez. The final aspect of the competition requires members of each crew to create works of art that carry sea themes. There is also a weeklong art exhibition in Saint-Tropez featuring dozens of talented local artists. A jury chooses the winning crew after taking into account the results of the three categories of competition.

There's no admission fee to the ARMEN Festival, but spectators are left up to their wits to find the best place to observe the various competitions throughout the festival.
