One of the glitziest beach towns on the Mediterranean, Cannes is a bastion of sun worship, shopping, and nightlife.

During the day, French Riviera beachgoers can either rent lounge chairs and umbrellas from one of the many hotel chains or lay out their towels at one of the free public areas. Those in search of more daytime activity can indulge in some of the best high-end shopping in the Côte d’Azur at the designer boutiques along Avenue de la Croisette, or grab some refreshment and get in a little people-watching at one of the many Cannes cafés and eateries.

At night, the jet set comes out to play at the casino earlier in the evening, then head to the exclusive clubs where champagne and music flow into the wee hours.

Anyone looking for a more down-to-earth vibe in Cannes will find it a few blocks further inland, where low-key haunts offer affordable drinks and live music.
