In one of the most picturesque cities in the world, one would expect that the outdoor activities and parks in Florence would live up to the city’s beautified reputation – and for what the city lacks in quantity, it more than makes up for in the quality of things to do outdoors.
One of the most famous parks in the city, and possibly most famous gardens in the world, is the Boboli Gardens situated on the south side of Florence in Oltrarno. The gardens rest on a hill overlooking the city and are the perfect escape from any busy day. The gardens are filled with majestic sculptures and fountains and the grounds are a favorite spot of artists attempting to capture the beauty on canvas.
There aren’t a ton of Florence parks, however, other outdoor activities more than make up for the lack of green space. First there are all the piazzas where historical architecture meets modern day hangout spots. And then there’s Ponte Vecchio, the city’s most famous bridge/landmark, and a great outdoor area for shopping and sightseeing.
For the ultimate outdoor experience though, anyone would be remiss not to head outside of Florence to the Chianti Region for a full day (or days) of wine tasting and sightseeing in one of the most visually stunning parts of the world.
