Museo Salvatore Ferragamo Information

Museo Salvatore Ferragamo - Museum in Florence.

The Museo Salvatore Ferragamo, created in 1995, is situated on Via dei Tornabuoni, the Rodeo Drive of Florence. The museum lies adjacent to the Ferragamo retail store.

Dedicated to the craft of the talented shoemaker and founder of the luxury brand, the museum features over 10,000 models of shoes dating from the beginning of Ferragamo’s career in the 1920s to the end of his life in 1960. The intricate detail and craftwork seen in each design allows Ferragamo to live up to his name and reputation as one of the most revered and innovative designers of his time.

The museum highlights Ferragamo’s career as a shoemaker, which began at the age of 13, and the history of the company that captivated celebrity admirers such as Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe.

Attached to the museum is a gift shop containing souvenir items and miniature models of the designs featured in the exhibition.

The New Florence
Arianna G. Feb 27, 2013
I didn't know much about Salvatore Ferragamo and I found out about this museum thanks to the Marilyn Monroe Exhibition. It was a huge surprise: such a contemporary set up, the perfect mix between an ancient building, a brilliant shoe-maker and one of the most gorgeous actress the world has ever seen. Ferragamo shoes are amazing. Some of them were designed 100 years ago and they still are so very modern that a few women would dare wearing them. Lady Gaga's style, almost. This is the future of Florence. This city will always be world-renowned for being the place of Dante, the Uffizi and Michelangelo, but fashion is its present and will definitely be its future. Why do I say that? Take a look at another brand-new Museum: Gucci, in Piazza della Signoria!
For Your Shoes Fix...
Tara R. Dec 13, 2012
Italians know their fashion, and the Museo Salvatore Ferragamo is an explosion of shoes in all shapes, sizes, colors and styles that have featured in Ferragamo’s design. I am a shoes girl, and no, there is no such thing as too many shoes. Learning about the designer behind the foot fashion is an added bonus, but really, you come for the shoes, in all their heel heights, patterns and materials, from leather to patent and all the shades in between. I know I can’t quite get my fashion fix shopping in Florence—my bank account wouldn’t allow it, for one thing—so coming to see the shoes put onto pedestals and immortalized in a museum is a perfect substitute.
