Party Earth The Old Stove Review

The Scene

With a festive young crowd and inexpensive drinks, it's always easy to have a rowdy night at The Old Stove, a classic Irish pub in the center of town.

With a festive young crowd and inexpensive drinks, it’s always easy to have a rowdy night at The Old Stove, a classic Irish pub in the center of town. Its location right off the Piazza della Repubblica attracts many young locals, foreign students, and English speakers who congregate every night for pints and a party.

On warm nights, however, patrons tend to flock to the lively scene on the spacious patio where white marble tables and black chairs – dimly lit by lanterns and surrounded by grand architecture – make for a festive atmosphere.

Complete with a flat-screen TV that swings out from the bar so clients can keep an eye on the game, the terrace is a popular place in summer and fall when students gather to sip cocktails.

There’s always a good time and a different vibe to be had at The Old Stove, whether it’s the mingle-happy aperitivo, the intense sports atmosphere during important football matches, the lighthearted karaoke nights, or the animated party scene on the weekends.

Brilliant beer and atmosphere

If Carlsberg made bars then they would probably base them on the perfectly designed Old Stove Pub. This Irish-themed bar lies nestled within a line of other Italian restaurants and cafes. Its thin entrance could be missed by a tourist not searching for it, but luckily I was tipped off where to find this fun-packed venue. Spreading across two floors, this drinkers’ paradise boasts a prime position in front of the breathtaking Duomo and so diners can sit back with a good-priced beer and admire the jaw-dropping views. Lined behind the bar is a selection of English, Irish and Italian beer on tap as well as a wide array of bottled beers. It will be no surprise to hear, when I was there the place was heaving - its reputation had evidently spread. But this only added to the venue's appeal. A party atmosphere weaved its way through the crowds of English, American and Italian pub-goers. Staff made sure drinks were served at speed but they still had time to have a conversation. Pub grub was being sold but I was more interested in the free shots my flyer offered. Here I also tasted some of the best cocktails in town. The Old Stove was a real highlight and definitely worth a visit.
Great for any night

Of the three Old Stove pubs in the Florence area this one is by far my favorite! Away from the more crowded Duomo and Signoria, this Old Stove hosts a crowd that’s fun and laid back, not too overwhelming. The outdoor space is great for talking with friends and meeting new people, especially when there is a game on. The bartenders are super friendly and with cards I picked up from promoters during the day, shots were free! My friends and I have gone for both a relaxed night and as a place to start before a long night out. It will definitely be a regular spot!
