Santa Maria Novella, Florence –
Easily distinguished by its Kelly-green door, Fiddler’s Elbow is an authentic Irish pub with a friendly clientele and an unbeatable atmosphere for sports enthusiasts – and with a variety of rooms and seating areas, the pub offers patrons diverse environments to match any mood.
A patio provides a stunning view of the magnificent Santa Maria Novella Basilica, but the Florentine influence stops there – because inside, Fiddler’s Elbow is all Irish. Vintage drinking paraphernalia and Irish witticisms decorate the walls, while dark wood furnishings and arched brick ceilings create rustically cozy spaces for chatty groups and mingling singles.
The pub attracts a pleasantly varied international crowd with many English speakers, and is particularly popular with sports fanatics. The three TVs are constantly tuned to rugby or football, and the crowd can get quite rowdy during big games.
Overall, though, Fiddler’s Elbow attracts a laid-back and welcoming clientele and creates an atmosphere perfect for a low-key evening of watching sports and shooting pool.
Sociable English speakers, Italians, and other internationals, 20s and up.
English and American pop music. Pool table in back. Three TVs in separate rooms show rugby, football, and other sporting events simultaneously. The bar is open until 5am during the Super Bowl.
No food. Happy Hour daily noon–9pm.
Pool €2. Beer and cocktails €5+, shots €3–€4.
Casual.
Weekends are busiest, but important football matches draw huge crowds and offer the most electric atmosphere.
