“Although Florence’s nightlife changes a lot with the seasons, the bar scene between September and May when all the students are in town is outstanding. Typically, the always dressed-up young Italians and droves of international students funnel into the piazzas, many of which are surrounded by high-energy bars where drinking outside is commonplace. But before any good night of partying, there’s nothing better than feasting on the endless courses of hearty Florentine cuisine that make up the massive Italian meals and that are guaranteed to leave you satisfied. Except for the heavy emphasis on dressing like a model and the rather bland local beers, Florence is great for hanging with friends in the piazzas and for nights filled with barhopping all night long.”

“The Tuscan capital is an absolutely gorgeous city on all counts – from the shopping to the people to the beautiful architecture, Florence simply oozes style. In fact, Florentines have a passion for dressing well, and their innate sense of fashion is reflected in all the cute boutiques and upscale designer stores that fill every corner of the city. As for the nightlife, Florence is a bit limited, though there are some chic bars that offer terrific aperitivo. And while a night of dancing at the outdoor summer clubs is entertaining, there just aren’t enough exclusive clubs to keep things exciting in the long run. Besides, walking the cobblestone streets of Florence in high heels is hardly comfortable and usually results in a number of clumsy moments!”

“Florence’s piazza culture offers such a unique way of just chilling out and meeting new people. Since the young Italians here tend to be curious and extroverted, it’s quite easy to strike up casual conversations, an experience made even better by the open-air, artistically-inspiring environment. There’s a particularly friendly scene in Piazza Santo Spirito, where warm evenings bring out alternative locals in droves to lounge at the square’s cafés or join in on the spontaneous jam sessions that often break out on the impressive steps of the basilica Santo Spirito. While the lack of a solid music scene is a bit of a let-down, Florence does have some pretty decent jazz and music bars.”

“An aesthetically captivating city with a small community atmosphere, Florence somehow manages to capture that laid-back yet sophisticated vibe without ever seeming the least bit pretentious. And all the museums, scenic landscapes, and incredible sculptures scattered around the city are just awe-inspiring. Besides the traditional evening promenade that brings tons of super-stylish people into the public squares to chat and mingle, perhaps the best part of the day is the aperitivo. This fantastic cultural tradition provides an affordable but entertaining way to start the evening with some world-class Chianti and delicious nibbles. Shared with a friend or two at a café with breathtaking views and a young crowd, aperitivo can easily turn into a scenic and social mixer perfect for meeting new people.”
