Oct 3, 2012 —  The idyllic town of Florence is a paradise for lovers of European cities: towering basilicas, cobblestone streets, and plazas oozing with history from all sides. One of the best parts about the city is how centrally focused it is, allowing visitors to pack in activity after activity without having to waste time with transit.

By day, the usual relaxing vibes of Italian culture pervade, and you can sip wine in front of Il Duomo cathedral, designer shop along Via Tornabuoni, and explore the endless array of other captivating things to do in the city. And after hours, you can join the vogue locals and young travelers as they bounce between bars and clubs amidst millennia of history and romanticized classic architecture.

With so much going on, we at Party Earth put together a to-do list for an authentic day and night in Florence, making sure you see the best of the city all the way from brunch till…well, maybe even brunch the next day.

    Piazzale Michelangelo

Landmark / Nightlife Area / Outdoor Activity / Square

Piazzale Michelangelo - Landmark | Nightlife Area | Outdoor Activity | Square in Florence.

After you’re respite with nature, it’s time to cruise a little ways along the river, maybe shop along the way, and head up another hill for a late afternoon at Piazzale Michelangelo. The birds-eye view of the city makes it a popular destination to watch the sun set behind the high towers of the Medici mansion and the archetypal Florentine orange rooftops. Our advice is to bring your own bottle of wine up to the plaza for a late afternoon romance between you and a glass of Chianti.

    Zoe

Art Gallery / Café / Cocktail Bar

Zoe - Art Gallery | Café | Cocktail Bar in Florence.

When the sun is replaced in the sky by hues of orange, red, and purple, descend back down towards the city to Zoe for our favorite Italian tradition – aperitivo. The classier version of happy hour here includes treating yourself to finger food delicacies at the buffet, while sipping discounted drinks with Zoe’s hip clientele. The cocktail bar doubles as an art gallery, adding an air of sophistication to your evening minus the pretention.

Art Gallery / Bar / Wine Bar

Friends laughing at chilling by the bar at Dolce Vita in Florence.

Within easy walking distance of Zoe is Dolce Vita, our recommendation for dinner and drinks once the mini-appetizers have your stomach rumbling. Conversation between the stylish and social clientele spills out onto the patio here and into the plaza, while a sleek bar serves up warm food and chilled drinks. The mouthwatering treats, crafted cocktails, and dreamy Florentine atmosphere will all have you realizing why Dolce Vita means the sweet life.

What are your favorite spots in Florence?

SamuelTodd14 Oct 5, 2012 Where is the Ponte Vecchio? Needs to be on this list.
Chris Morgan Oct 3, 2012 Gotta at least swing by the Ponte Vecchio in your wanderings around the town, also around the Duomo we found this place called "Shot Bar" that had real cheap shots and a bunch of study abroad folks. Not the place to spend your night, but a good place to get the night started. I literally did spend 24 hours in Florence and wish I had this list at the time. Of course we rolled in on a train that was delayed 4 hours by a snowstorm and dropped us off outside of town so we spend the next 2 hours walking our suitcases through the snow to our hotel. But the rest of the time was awesome with snowmen being built at the Duomo, random snowball fights amongst the Florentines, and a roving band of Santas that were part of some sort of charity event.
