Globespotting: 24 Hours in Florence

Start your day with a delectable meal at PopCafé, a quaint little eatery located right in the center of Piazza Santo Spirito. It’s one of the first vegetarian-friendly café’s in the city, bringing in a bohemian crowd that is sure to make for entertaining people-watching as you indulge in brunch (and wine?) on the front patio. 

Once you’re satiated, bask under the Tuscan sun amongst the stunning landscapes, sculptures, and fountains of the Boboli  Gardens – one of the most famous estates in the world. The hillside vantage point provides breathtaking skyline sights of Florence, while it’s removal from the hustle and bustle of the center provide a tranquil space to find peace while discovering Florentine history. 

After you’re respite with nature, it’s time to cruise a little ways along the river, maybe shop along the way, and head up another hill for a late afternoon at Piazzale Michelangelo. The birds-eye view of the city makes it a popular destination to watch the sun set behind the high towers of the Medici mansion and the archetypal Florentine orange rooftops. Our advice is to bring your own bottle of wine up to the plaza for a late afternoon romance between you and a glass of Chianti. 

When the sun is replaced in the sky by hues of orange, red, and purple, descend back down towards the city to Zoe for our favorite Italian tradition – aperitivo. The classier version of happy hour here includes treating yourself to finger food delicacies at the buffet, while sipping discounted drinks with Zoe’s hip clientele. The cocktail bar doubles as an art gallery, adding an air of sophistication to your evening minus the pretention. 

Within easy walking distance of Zoe is Dolce Vita, our recommendation for dinner and drinks once the mini-appetizers have your stomach rumbling. Conversation between the stylish and social clientele spills out onto the patio here and into the plaza, while a sleek bar serves up warm food and chilled drinks. The mouthwatering treats, crafted cocktails, and dreamy Florentine atmosphere will all have you realizing why Dolce Vita means the sweet life. 

No trip is complete without a stop for drinks at Negroni, one of the most historic bars in Florence. Not only is it deeply rooted in the history of the city, but also it’s where the Negroni cocktail was first invented. Drinks here are prepared with the upmost care, and you can move between the chic interior and the comfy wooden patio while you sip your concoction. International jetsetters from all over the world congregate at Negroni for a taste of history, making it a unique haunt to socialize with the animated crowds over the signature drinks. 

The nightlife is heating up, the fashionable Florentine’s are hitting the town, and you’re beginning to realize that you’ve been drinking since noon. Which means it’s now time to keep the drinks flowing at Flò, one of the ritziest destinations in the city.
