Events in Florence

The city will probably never win any awards in the Party Town Olympics, but there are lots of events in Florence happening every month, from concerts to theater to an almost endless schedule of festivals.

Many come just to stare at the amazing architecture and the stunning art in museums like the Uffizi and the Galleria dell’Accademia, while others take advantage of the incredible shopping opportunities and the upscale fashion boutiques that line Via dei Tamburini.

Drinking wine is a signature event in itself, and nothing beats cozying into an enoteca (wine bar) with a bottle of Chianti’s finest while a dapper crooner plays some live music.

It’s important to note, however, that the city’s personality changes with the season. In the warmer months, those looking for things to do head for the scenic café patios in the vivacious piazzas and the outdoor clubs by Cascine Park, while many venues shut their doors entirely due to the exodus of locals going on vacation.

During the cooler months, patrons leave the patios behind as they search out the cozy niches of indoor locales, perhaps catching a classical performance at one of the city’s many historic theaters.

Sports-lovers, meanwhile, revel in a match when Associazione Calcio Fiorentina takes to the field, which is one of Italy’s most-revered soccer teams.
