Toots and the Maytals Bio

Toots and the Maytals

Toots and the Maytals, originally called The Maytals, has been captivating audiences with its carefree reggae/gospel/ska style since its inception in 1961. Frederick “Toots” Hibbert started the band after moving to Kingston, Jamaica, where he met band members Henry Gordon and Nathaniel Mathias.

The band’s most successful album is Funky Kingston, which was released in 1973 and is listed number 378 on Rolling Stone’s The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Despite the success of predecessor Bob Marely in the United States, Toots and the Maytals fame never escalated to that level. But thanks to years developing its reggae-inspired vocals Toots and the Maytals have been nominated for five Grammy awards throughout its career and promises an outstanding show, so be sure to look for Toots and the Maytals tour dates soon!
