Toby Keith Bio

Toby Keith

Toby Keith was born on July 8, 1961 in Clinton, Oklahoma, but grew up in Moore, Oklahoma. During the summers Keith spent with his grandmother in Fort Smith, Arkansas, he developed a love of music while watching musicians play at Garner’s Supper Club, where his grandmother was a member. In the early 1990s, after working a series of random jobs including work in Oklahoma’s oil fields and as a semi-pro football player, Keith moved to Nashville.

Keith became a regular in the Nashville music circuit, distributing demo CDs, but he didn't get any bites until his flight home, when a flight attendant gave a copy of the demo to Harold Shedd, an executive at Mercury Records. Shedd went to see Keith perform and signed him that night. Keith’s first single, “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,” was released in 1993 and went on to top the Billboard Country Singles chart at number one.

Since his first single, Keith has released sixteen studio albums and has won four American Music awards, seven Academy of Country Music awards, two Country Music Association awards, and Billboard’s Country Artist of the Decade. Toby Keith tickets go fast since he's become one of country music’s most recognizable stars, so look for Toby Keith tour dates soon!
