The xx

Indie pop darlings The xx have been rocking (or indie-popping?) the charts since their self-titled debut album came out in late 2009.

Based in London, the group formed in 2005 when founding members Romy Croft and Oliver Sim were just 15. They were joined shortly thereafter by Jamie Smith, and all three remain active members of the band.

The album xx was ranked on several “Best of 2009” lists, even earning the number one slot on The Guardian newspaper’s yearly roundup. Rolling Stone magazine also ranked it the ninth best album of the year, and the album also earned the 2010 Mercury Prize, which is given annually to the best album out of the UK and Ireland.

Several tracks off the album received considerable play on TV, most notably “Intro”, which was used extensively during the NBC coverage of the Winter Olympics and was also sampled by Rihanna for her song “Drunk on Love”.

Other popular xx tracks include “Crystalised”, “Basic Space”, “Islands”, and “VCR”.

The band’s second album, Coexist, was released in late 2012.

I saw the XX in concert and they were so amazing. They sound just as good in concert as they do on their albums. I saw them play at an outdoors venue and it was the perfect music for a chill night of jamming and a little picnic dinner with my friends. Their sound is so unique and smooth and beautiful. Really just such a refreshing sound to listen to - especially in the car! Love driving to the sounds of the XX. I definitely recommend buying both albums and trying to see them in concert because it was so worth it. Can't wait for the next album!

The XX is amazing. I can listen to their songs on repeat for weeks. Their music is really simple but "hauntingly gorgeous" is a good way to put it as said in the review above. They have beautifully simple melodies with ethereal vocals and heart felt lyrics.. Their new album is finally out and is every bit as delicious as the first. I love their music. There is nothing like jumping in my car and listening to the XX on my way to work to maintain my sanity in morning traffic. I am so sad I will not be able to go to either of their two shows coming up in Los Angeles on October 12th and 13th. .

LOVE, LOVE LOVE The XX! Their music is hauntingly gorgeous; each track as beautiful as the next. Never tire of their first album, XX, and their sophomore effort, Coexist, was well-worth the wait. So anxious to see them perform live......
