The Walkmen Bio

The Walkmen

The Walkmen is an indie rock band from Harlem that is heavily influenced by the likes of U2, Bruce Springsteen, the Cure, the Smiths, and New Order.

The band, which consists of music veterans from the disbanded groups Jonathon Fire*Eater and The Recoys, burst onto the music scene as a new group with its well-received debut album Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me Is Gone in 2002. Critics compared The Walkmen to New York City contemporaries The Strokes.

Bows + Arrows, the band's second album, was released in 2004, again to critical acclaim, and eventually made many “best of” lists. Singles “Little House of Savages” and “What’s in It for Me” were featured on Fox’s hit TV show The O.C., while “The Rat” was named Pitchfork Media’s twentieth best song of the 2000s.

The Walkmen performances across the globe have earned the band scores of loyal fans, who have made chart toppers and best sellers out of the band’s five albums following Arrows. Heaven, released in 2012, peaked at number thirty on the U.S. Billboard 200, proving The Walkmen are as popular now as they have ever been.
