The Misfits Bio

The Misfits

For some bands, blood, guts, and all things cinematically horrific might seem like a bit much. But for Jersey-based punk progenitors The Misfits, it’s horror business as usual. With its signature mix of speedy aggression and 1950s-style crooning, this monster-obsessed band of psychopaths has inspired fans of punk, goth, rockabilly, and metal for almost four decades.

Taking its name from Marilyn Monroe's final film, and originally led by the charismatic and diabolical Glen Danizg, the band now features only one original member in longtime bassist Jerry Only. Still, The Misfits corral many of punk’s greatest musicians, including Dez Cadena from Black Flag, to perform Halloween hard-hitters like “Last Caress,” “Die, Die My Darling,” and “Hybrid Moments” for the rabid masses of fans, known as "fiends," who worship the group. The Misfits' ever-present symbol, the dull-eyed Crimson Ghost, can be seen everywhere from the films of John Waters, to the stage gear of bands like Metallica and Henry Rollins.

Full of beans and set to slay, The Misfits continue going where eagles dare so you won’t have to. Check for The Misfits tickets today!

The Misfits were one of the later punk bands I began listening to, despite being familiar with their namesake and of course their iconic skull logo. They quickly shot high in my favorite punk bands of all time, although admittedly I've only heard their Danzig-era tracks... but I think most listeners are under the consensus that those early years were their best. I think what made me really like the group was their rock-n-roll/rockabilly integration into the vocal stylings. I guess my perception of 80s punk was always the hardcore acts like Black Flag and Minor Threat, who I enjoyed for their sheer aggression but were obviously not too focused on melodic songwriting. What I enjoy most about the Misfits is their ability to maintain the speed and aggression of that era's punk, but also inserting the melodic qualities that made their songs more memorable. Can't deny the coolness of the horror theme either!
