The Lumineers Bio

The Lumineers

From the outside, The Lumineers might look like an overnight success story. However, the band’s frontman Wesley Schultz and drummer Jeremiah Fraites struggled for a few years in the cutthroat New York City music scene before moving to Denver, where they met their cellist (and backup vocalist), Neyla Pekarek, by posting a Craigslist ad; Stelth Ulvang (piano) and Ben Wahamaki (bass) were soon added to the group.

The Lumineers eponymous debut album – released in 2012 – was certified gold and earned the band two 2013 Grammy Awards nominations. The album’s lead single, "Ho Hey," hit the top spot on the U.S. Alternative and Rock Charts, number three on Australia and Canada’s single charts, and number eight in the UK.

Critics and fans alike have called The Lumineers performances and sound a throwback to simplicity and a refreshing blend of folk, gospel, and heartland rock that appeal to a wide audience worldwide.

In its young career, The Lumineers has toured with Old Crow Medicine Show, The Milk Carton Kids, Pokey LaFarge and the South City Three, and has performed as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live (in 2013).

Be sure to buy The Lumineers tickets soon, because the band's popularity continues to grow!

It is very rare that an album comes along and every song on it, is simply amazing!! Each song is different and their sound is so unique. Personally I think they are a blend of Kings of Leon, Arcade Fire, and The Black Keys, creating their own awesomness. Their songs 'Dead Sea' and 'Stubborn Love' are slower but the lyrics and vocals are just simply magnificent.! 'Ho Hey' and 'Big Parade' are more upbeat and are super catchy..!!

Sensational LIVE performance at The Fonda! While HO HEY is the most popular, it's not my favorite. The whole album is spectacular - check out STUBBORN LOVE and SLOW IT DOWN. Those are highly addicting! Same goes for FLOWERS IN HER HAIR. They are great sing alongs, too! They treated us with a new untitled song that was amazing. I can't wait for their next album!! Great live performers. You can tell that this is their passion and they are so grateful for their fans and happy to hear us sing along to every song. The girl in the group has an outstanding voice too - she had more of a solo on the untitled song and it was really great to hear her standout. Great band, great songs, great performances. Love this group.

Just saw these guys perform at The Fonda Theater last night. AMAZING show. I was just introduced to them a couple months ago when i completely fell in love with their album. They've got a Mumford & Sons-y/indie/folk sound but pretty upbeat where I find M&S to be a little forlorn. Their song, "Ho Hey!" seems to be heading up the charts of late but don't let the potential over exposure fool you ("Trouble w/the Curve" trailer, anyone?) . The entire album is pretty fantastic. Some faves: "Slow It Down," "Flowers In Your Hair," Stubborn Love." But beyond the album, I highly recommend seeing them live. Firstly, they only have one released album so they pretty much played every song on that album. So the cherry on top, were the covers they did (i.e. The Stones' "You Can't Always Get..."). They also sung some unreleased songs that they've been working on. Lastly, they are so new to success, they just seem really happy to be there performing their songs. They love the crowd and want you to sing along. It was a great, fun, enjoyable show. Couldn't recommend them more!

I never thought I would love a folk band so much! The Lumineers is uber awesome. They marry the folk and some elements of rock so perfectly, you get mesmerized. I especially love their song Slow it down! I am probably gonna see them live at their concert in October. I can't wait already to see them.
