The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion is a New York City-based rock trio consisting of Judah Bauer (guitar, backing vocals, harmonica), Russell Simins (drums), and Jon Spencer (vocals and guitar). The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion concerts feature a fusion of experimental rock and roll, influenced and informed by a variety of genres including punk, blues, soul, rap, rockabilly, and R&B. The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion has worked with the Beastie Boys, Steve Albini, Solomon Burke, Elliott Smith, Beck, and many other established artists from a variety of musical backgrounds.
The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion saw a great deal of success in the 1990s, powered by the releases of albums The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Crypt Style, A Reverse Willie Horton, Extra Width, and Orange. Pitchfork named “Bellbottoms,” a track from the 1994 album Orange, number 180 on their Top 200 Tracks of the 1990s. The band released its albums worldwide.
In 2012, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion released Meat and Bone, its first studio album in over seven years. The album was critically renowned and exposed a new generation to the psychedelic blues sounds of The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.
