British soul/funk band The Heavy was formed in 2007 by friends Kelvin Swaby (vocals), Dan Taylor (guitar), Spencer Page (bass), and Chris Ellul (drums). The group's first single, 2007’s “That Kind of Man,” was released independently and was discovered by Ninja Tune, while The Heavy’s first album, Great Venegeance and Furious Fire, released later that year. The band appeared at the South by Southwest festival in 2008 and performed on the 2009 album Johnny Cash Remixed. The Heavey's second album, The House that Dirt Built, was released in 2009, while its single “How You Like Me Now?” has been featured in many TV shows, movies, and commercials, including Entourage, Community, White Caller, The Fighter, The Change-Up, and a Kia Sorrento Super Bowl commercial. The song also received heavy play at the victory rally for Barack Obama in the 2012 election and inspired David Letterman to call them back for an encore, a first for his show. The Heavy’s third album, The Glorious Dead, released in 2012, and the group's songs continue to be featured in TV shows and commercials.
