bc4568Apr 10, 2013I saw The Fray back in 2006, right when Over My Head was starting to get stuck in our collective heads, and their live show left such a bad taste in my mouth that I never looked at the band the same way again. Don’t get me wrong, Isaac Slade has a nice voice, but, other than a fun cover of Lean On Me, the performance lacked everything that I look for in going to a show. The band sounded EXACTLY like they do on their albums, with not a single note out of place. They just kind of stood there and played their songs with no real energy. I wasn’t expecting a mosh pit or ripping guitar solos or anything, but come on. Why bother if you’re not going to dress up the songs a little differently, get the crowd going, something, anything to add value beyond hearing the same songs that I can listen to at home, the same way that I can listen to them at home. Their first album is still full of catchy pop songs (some more so than others), but I can’t say that I’ve even thought about listening to them since that night back in 2006.
