The Beach Boys Bio

The Beach Boys

As one of the most famous rock bands to ever grace the airwaves, The Beach Boys had simple beginnings. Started in Southern California by a group of cousins and their friends, The Beach Boys’ music reflects the laid back mentality of California surfers with a pop flair. After signing with Capitol Records in 1962, The Beach Boys’ unique sound in their first album, Surfin’ Safari, grabbed the attention of audiences throughout the country, debuting at number 32 on the US Billboard Charts. This was followed by Surfin’ U.S.A., an album that gained even more popularity with the single, “Surf City,” hitting number one on the US Billboard Charts.

Since their first two albums, The Beach Boys have produced 27 studio albums, a small indicator of the legacy the group has left to future generations. Although they have won a multitude of awards throughout their long and lucrative career, some of the most notable include a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction (1988), Vocal Group Hall of Fame (1998), Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award (2001), and numerous number one singles and albums.

The "Baby Boomers" were out this Saturday night in hopes of rekindling their youth by celebrating the "60's"one more time. The occasion, the five surviving early members of the legendary group — the Beach Boys are touring again, celebrating 50 years as one of world's favorite rock groups. Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks with a back drop resembling a drive-in movie screen, took to the stage and for one more night made an excited audience of fans who grew playing their music, wax nostalgic. To support and celebrate the tour, the Beach Boys have cut their first single since "Kokomo" 1988 with a new tune entitled That's Why God Made the Radio. From early on , the Beach Boy's had the audience on their feet and dancing to one hit after another including Surfer Girl, Good Vibrations, Sail on Sailor, Sloop John B and two of my personal favorites, Bruce Johnston singing (Forever) which was originally sung by Dennis Wilson and God Only Knows which was sung originally by Carl Wilson. Yes, the voices were strained but the feeling was the same. The Beach Boys proved that they can still vocal harmonize with the best of them. The Beach Boys performed for two hours, stopping only for a 20-minute intermission pumping out hit after hit and offering the pack audience about every staple of their extensive catalog as well as the new single. For their encore the Beach Boys returned to the stage and performed Kokomo and Summertime Blues. And, although the notes are a little harder to hit, and some of the members have changed, the Beach Boys once again thrilled their audience and helped them to reminisce their youth one more time.
