The Avett Brothers Bio

The Avett Brothers

Founded in 2000 in Concord, North Carolina, the American folk/roots/indie band The Avett Brothers is comprised of brothers Scott Avett (banjo), Seth Avett (guitar), and Bob Crawford (stand-up bass), with Joe Kwon (cello) and Jacob Edwards (drums) joining the band on tour. The Avetts played acoustic bluegrass music together in high school and college, forming a band called Nemo. In 2000, the new independent band worked with Crawford on the album Country Was and organized its own promotional tour. Its albums A Carolina Jubilee, Mignoette, and Four Thieves Gone were released on small labels to small sales, but the 2007 album Emotionalism made some rumblings on the Billboard charts, leading to a performance on Late Night with Conan O’Brien. The band has since released two more albums and appeared on several TV shows, including a live performance at the 2011 Grammy Awards. With supporters such as Mumford and Sons, The Avett Brothers are a growing act in the Americana music scene.

Sarah Oates Feb 7, 2013 The folkl yet alternative sounds of brothers Seth and Scott Avett will leave you with goosebumps. Along with bassist Bob Crawford, this group has forever changed the sounds of bluegrass. Their alternative edge puts them ahead of the bluegrass genre. Along with up beat melodies and powerful voices, the true beauty of The Avett's Brothers music - at least in my opinion - is their poetic lyrics. The lyrics of each and every song not only tell a story, but leave you with no choice but to sing along. Their words are their art, and their art is nothing short of pure happiness. It's one thing to listen to these folk rockers on iTunes, but to here them live is a truly amazing music experience. The Avett Brothers' poetic lyrics and amazing melodies make them one of the most genuinely unique and artistic groups today.
Chris Morgan Oct 1, 2012 The Avett Brothers are one of the most genuine groups out there. They come from North Carolina (2 of them are brothers) and they play music that sounds like it was born and bred in North Carolina. They talk about love, rural vs. urban life, more about love, a little more about life, and are thrilled that the rest of the world wants to listen. But they would probably still do it even if no one cared. I and Love and You, the song is a masterpiece. After my first listen I had an "ohmigod I need to listen to that again right now!" moment. But the whole album is great and even thought that was their breakout album I was very excited to learn that they had a bunch of music before that. It's always a treat when you find a "new" band like that, even if it means you didn't discover them first. The latest album, The Carpenter, continues along the same vein with great folk rock songs about life. The last 2 albums were produced by superproducer Rick Rubin which makes me like him and the Avett Brothers even more.
