Talib Kweli

Talib Kweli was born Talib Kweli Greene in Brooklyn, New York to parents who both worked as professors at the collegiate leve. Kweli was the first in his family – which also includes a younger brother that became a Constitutional Law professor at Columbia Law School – to take an artistic professional direction.

After various collaborations with other amateur rappers, Kweli finally found mainstream success with the release of his first studio album, Quality, in 2002. The album was critically renowned and peaked at number six on the R&B/Hip Hop Albums charts, powered by hit singles “Get By” (produced by Kanye West) and “Good to You.”

Kweli has released five solo studio albums and has collaborated with various industry giants including Mary J. Blige, Mos Def, Lupe Fiasco, Black Star, Reflection Eternal, The Roots, and Pharrell. The rapper is known for his literary prowess and ability to clearly express his thoughts, feeling, and emotions – qualities that continue to draw established performers to want to work with Kweli.
