Soundgarden

Soundgarden is a Grammy Award-winning band from Seattle that was one of the key players in the formation of grunge music back in the early 1990s. Formed in 1984, the band has sold over 22.5 million albums worldwide and has been nominated for six Grammy Awards in addition to its two wins. Soundgarden was the first of its contemporaries -- including Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Alice in Chains -- to sign with a major record label when it inked a deal with A & M Records.

The band’s first major record label album debut, and second album overall, Louder Than Love, became Soundgarden’s first album to peak on Billboard 200, reaching 108 in 1990. Soon, Soundgarden performances became known worldwide for crisply mixing acoustic and electric instruments, all the while permanently etching a place for heavy metal in alternative rock.

The band went on to release three more albums after Love before breaking up in 1997. Eventually, Soundgarden reunited for 2010’s Telephantasm: A Retrospective, a compilation album that was packaged with initial shipments of the video game Guitar Heroes: Warriors of Rock. In 2012, the band released King Animal, its sixth studio album, which featured thirteen new tracks.
