An American ska and punk band from Huntington Beach, California, Reel Big Fish is known for their incredible high-energy shows, off-kilter sense of humor, and ironic covers of pop music. Reel Big Fish first formed in 1991 and today consists of Aaron Barrett (vocals, guitar), Dan Regan (trombone), John Christianson “Johnny Christmas” (trumpet), Ryland Steen (drums), Derek Gibbs (bass), and Matt Appleton (saxophone, vocal harmonies).
Reel Big Fish first achieved mainstream success when their second album, Turn the Radio Off (1996), made it onto the Billboard Charts, and the single “Sell Out” got wide airplay on MTV. In addition to Radio, the band has released several other albums including Everything Sucks (1995), Cheer Up! (2002), and Candy Coated Fury (2012).
The band is also known for its appearance in the movie BASEketball and its collaboration on the soundtrack with their cover of A-ha's “Take on Me.”
After more than twenty years of band member changes, thousands of shows, and multiple albums, the band still tours for more than two hundred days a year and is still led by original member Barrett. The Candy Coated Fury tour has the band traveling around the world in 2013. Reel Big Fish tickets sell out fast.
