skylar.hardenbrook Apr 11, 2013 When it comes to artists who can hold their own as both an MC and producer, Q-Tip has to be at the top, if not #1. Q-Tip is not only notable for his contributions as an MC in A Tribe Called Quest, but also for being an amazing producer, making fantastic beats for Nas, Mobb Deep, and of course having his hand in the production work for Tribe, which set the bar very very high for jazz rap. Definitely one of the most distinctive and smooth flows (always preferred him over Phife in ATCQ), and a prolific contributor to hip-hop culture in every way, whether with Tribe or in his solo career. I have zero doubts that listening to ATCQ early on heavily influenced my current interest in hip-hop culture, and Q-Tip played an inseparable role in that.
