Phoenix Bio

Phoenix

Phoenix began in Versailles, France as a simple garage band composed of three friends, Thomas Mars, Deck d’Arcy, and Chris Mazzalai, who enjoyed making music together. Mazzalai’s older brother, Laurent, eventually joined the band and two years later, the group became Phoenix. As their popularity grew because of their unique alternative rock vibe, Phoenix signed with Source Records. After their first two singles, “If I Ever Feel Better” and “Too Young,” Phoenix released their first album, titled United in 2000. Since United, Phoenix has composed four other albums, the most popular being Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix in 2009, which went on to win Best Alternative music Album at the 2009 Grammys. Phoenix has shown throughout the years to exude creativity, evident in their constantly new sound so check for Phoenix tour dates soon. You won’t want to miss them!

Review of “Entertainment” by Phoenix Phoenix is back with a bang. In February, they released the single “Entertainment,” off their anticipated seventh album — “Bankrupt!” — due out April 23 of this year. This is their first piece of music since 2009. “Entertainment” was a great choice to release as a teaser to Phoenix’s upcoming album. It is an upbeat song that sounds similar to the style of many of the tracks on 2009’s “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix.” It starts with funky, Japanese-inspired chords, which are returned to during every chorus, but quickly moves into strong guitar and drums before vocalist Thomas Mars begins singing. The song is fun to bop your head to and sing along with but has poignant lyrics as well. Mars seems to be singing about a relationship from the past that he is happy to have left. He sings, “What I once refused to be / Is everything they long together / I’d rather be alone,” referring to his past love who apparently does everything with her current partner that he never wanted to do with her. Despite its lyrics about a bad past relationship, “Entertainment” is the type of bubbly pop rock that fans of “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix” are used to. With its Japanese influence and meaningful lyrics, though, “Entertainment” proves that Phoenix still has that quirky, unique style that attracted many indie rock fans to them in the first place.
