Like many bands, Owl City started as a band in singer-songwriter (and sole member) Adam Young’s parents’ basement. Owl City’s musical style is considered a blend of indietronica and emo-pop and its music is compared to contemporaries like The Ready Set, Kill Paradise, and Hellogoodbye. The band gained a sizable following on social networking sites like Myspace and released a few albums independently before signing with Universal Republic in 2008.
Owl City gained mainstream exposure with the release of its major studio debut album, Ocean Eyes, in 2009, which debuted at number 27 on the Billboard 200 and included the quadruple-platinum selling single “Fireflies.” Critical reception of the album was mixed, but Owl City performances were soon packed wall-to-wall with adoring and approving fans.
Owl City followed up its debut successfully with All Things Bright and Beautiful (2011) and Midsummer Station (2012), which featured popular tracks “Deer in the Headlights,” “Galaxies,” “Alligator Skies,” “Shooting Star,” and “Good Time” (with Carly Rae Jepsen).
Make sure to buy your Owl City tickets as soon as they become available because just like other contemporaries who are filing up to work with the group, fans are filling stadiums ridiculously fast to see Owl City perform.
