Of Monsters and Men Bio

Of Monsters and Men

Part of Iceland’s crowded indie folk and pop scene, Of Monsters and Men showed up on the radar after winning a national battle of the bands competition in 2010. The group’s first album, My Head Is an Animal, reached #6 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and #3 in the UK, a rare event for an indie band’s debut. Based on that success, the band was signed to Unversal for worldwide distribution. Members include Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir and Ragnar Pórhallsson (vocals and guitar), Brynjar Leifsson (guitar), Arnar Rósenkranz Hilmarsson (drums), Árni Guojónsson (keyboard), and Kristján Páll Kristjánsson (bass), with session musicians regularly joining in and band members occasionally taking up unconventional instruments like the accordion and the glockenspiel. Of Monsters and Men released three hit singles in 2011 and 2012: “Little Talks,” “Dirty Paws,” and “Mountain Sound.”

Sometimes when you go to see one of your favourite bands life it is almost scary. What if it just doesn't sound as good as you hope and expect? It could even ruin some of your favourite songs forever. Of Monsters and Men blows it out of the water!! Their stage presence has your at the tip of your toes the entire time as if the music is almost physically drawing you in. They were amazing! I never wanted them to stop! Man I can't wait to see them again.

I could absolutely not be more obsessed with Of Monsters and Men! Their new album is so incredible; it always puts me in a good mood when I listen to it. I saw them live at Outside Lands this past summer and was blown away with their natural talent. They were almost better live than recorded, if that is even possible. The lead singers are out of this world and blew my mind. They are such a talented band and I can’t wait to hopefully see them perform live again some time soon. If you ever have the chance to see them, I would say their show would be a must.

I love Of Monsters and Men! I only recently discovered them when I saw them at this MTV promotional party at which they performed in New York. It was a really cool place, actually it was an old synagogue that is now used for events such as this one. Anyway, after seeing them perform I was hooked. As Chris said, their song "Little Talks" is awesome. Some of my other favorites include "King and Lionheart", "Sloom", and "Dirty Paws". If you get a chance I would highly recommend going to see them live as they were really great.

First Bjork from Iceland and now this. Even though their economy is down the piss hole, they seem to have no problem creating good music!

I first heard Of Monsters and Men at the local 98.7 radio station. I instantly fell in love with them. I guess my genre of liking is more of the indie folk/indie rock. Though "Little Talks" is the more popular number that is being played over and over again on the radio, my favorite song from their album is "King and Lionheart". It beats "Little Talks" hands down! I agree with Chris on the fact that this is definitely a band to watch out for!

Of Monsters and Men are awesome and "Little Talks" is my early pick for song of 2012. I just wish the world knew that I was about 4 months ahead of the rest of the world on these guys. The whole album is strong but the single will blow you away. T This band might cement Iceland as a clear #2 behind Sweden in my rankings of Scandinavian music.
