Formed in Salford, England in 1980, New Order is a spin-off of Joy Division, which broke up after the death of singer Ian Curtis. Band members Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, and Stephen Morris picked up right where they left off, releasing the Joy Division song “Ceremony” as New Order’s first single. New Order took the post-punk sound of Joy Division and added a poppy, electronic dance feel to their music which was incredibly well received by critics and the public alike.
Since their formation and throughout their subsequent break-ups and reunifications, New Order has release nine studio albums, five of which reached the Billboard Top 100 chart and two of which went Gold in the United States. New Order has also released dozens of singles, six of which reached the Billboard Hot 100, and five of which were the #1 dance songs in the US according to Billboard. New Order concerts are upbeat and nostalgic, featuring some of the best examples of 1980s dance songs that there are. Tickets to New Order concerts generally fairly affordable and easy to come by.
