An R&B group from Saint Paul, Minnesota, Mint Condition was formed in the late 1980s and is known for using diverse musical styles from soul, jazz, and funk to Latin stylistic elements.
The band developed while members Stokley Williams, Ricky Kinchen, Homer O’Dell, Larry Waddell, Keri Lewis, and Jeffrey Allen were students at Central High School. They performed together at clubs and small venues, and were eventually signed to Perspective Records, under which they released their first album. The album gained success with the song “Breakin’ My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes)," which remained on the charts for over thirty weeks.
Mint Condition performances are generally laid-back and relaxing. The group performs in major venues, but generally frequent the jazz and blues club venues, which suit its sound more. Mint Condition has released seven full-length albums since 1991 and continues to tour today.
In December 2012, Mint Condition was inducted into The SoulMusic Hall of Fame, and performed alongside Erykah Badu, Alicia Keys, and Wayne Brady at the BET Honors in 2013.
