Method Man Bio

Method Man

Method Man – legally named Clifford Smith – is a producer, actor, hip-hop artist and winner of the Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or a Group for his 1996 collaboration with Mary J. Blige on “I’ll Be There for You/You’re All I Need.” Method Man was one of the most visible members of the legendary Wu-Tang Clan collective and was the first member to release his own solo album, 1994’s critically acclaimed Tical. Method Man was one of the most influential early hip-hop artists and worked with fellow hip-hop titans The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur.

Method Man frequently teams up with Redman, and the duo saw success on their 1999 album Blackout! 2, which debuted at number seven on the U.S. Billboard 200. Method Man has focused much of his career on acting, appearing in TV shows such as The Wire, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and Chappelle’s Show, as well as many films.

Crystal Meth, Method Man’s latest studio album, has not been released, but the artist promises it will be more discreet and less reliant on images of weed smoking, as he is now a father.

Method Man is one of the distinctive and instantly recognizable members of the Wu-Tang Clan, who definitely let his eccentric personality shine through his lyrics and voice. He was the first MC from the group to drop his solo album Tical, which does fall short of the most exceptional and critically acclaimed solo releases from other Wu-Tang MCs, but is still a great album featuring the RZA's masterful production and is unfortunately overlooked often. I'm not as big a fan of his later releases due to beats that pale in comparison to the RZA's, but Meth has always been a skillful lyricist and surely would bring the energy and entertainment to a live show if you can ever catch one.
