In 2004, with the release of its debut album, Room on the 3rd Floor, McFly became the youngest band since The Beatles to have a number one record on the UK Albums Chart. The album sold over two million copies worldwide, propelled by hit singles “5 Colours in Her Hair,” “Obviously,” and “That Girl,” and spawned thousands of McFlyers – fans of McFly performances – around the globe.
McFly – who took its name from Michael J. Fox’s character in Back to the Future – cites The Beach Boys, The Beatles, and The Monkees as huge influencers of its pop rock, but critics are more apt to lump them in with contemporaries Simple Plan, Avril Lavigne, Drake Bell, and Busted.
No matter what musical influences are apparent in its music, McFly continues to be commercially successful; its five studio and two greatest hits albums top charts worldwide. McFly’s popularity has paved the way for a film appearance in the Lindsay Lohan flick Just My Luck in 2006 and a gig as host of the first ever Nickelodeon UK Kids Choice Awards in 2007.
Make sure to buy your McFly tickets so that you can join the band in singing the choruses of songs like “I’ve Got You” and “If U C Kate.”
