nlaureolaSep 12, 2012With their latest album/tour, I feel like Maps & Atlases has steered itself a little ways away from the whole math rock thing, which can be a really good thing, depending on what you're into. For me, this is a vast improvement. The skill is still there, but it never impedes the melodies or song structure. "Solid Ground" is amazing. Watch that video. It'll also let you in on what the band looks like, which is not what I was expecting when I saw them live. Super long hair and glasses? Really? They bend the rock star mold a bit. But they still got down and dirty, bringing their instruments into the crowd from on stage for their last couple of songs at the Troubadour. I've never seen anyone genuinely do that without trying to start a riot. Respect.
