M83

With catchy hooks and a swirling ambiance, M83 is one of the biggest electronic bands in the world. Named for the spiral galaxy Messier 83, M83 makes music worthy of its cosmic namesake. M83 hails from Antibes, France, blending shoegazer pop with haunting reverb and energetic beats for an expansive electronic sound that invites you to quietly reflect just as much as it propels you to dance. With founding member Anthony Gonzalez on vocals, his brother Yann Gonzalez on guitar, Morgan Kibby on keys, and Loïc Maurin on drums, M83 creates unique soundscapes that blur the edge between pop and art.

In 2001, M83 released its self-titled debut, which built them a European fan base until 2005 when the album was reissued on Mute Records to international acclaim. M83 released Saturdays = Youth in 2008 and its single “We Own the Sky” gained the band a new following through its use in a trailer for the snowboarding video game Stoked.

M83 live in concert attracts thousands of fans from around the world and the band has toured in the past with headlining acts like Kings of Leon, The Killers, and Depeche Mode. In 2010 M83 composed the score for the French film Black Heaven and their songs have been featured in countless commercials, trailers, television shows, and films.

With the release of Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming in 2011, M83 achieved their dream of making a double album. Inspired by The Smashing Pumpkins’ legendary Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, the album made it to number 15 on the US charts and the popular music blog Pitchfork, placed Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming third on its list of the Top 50 Albums of 2011. The album’s single, “Midnight City” topped Pitchfork’s Top 100 Tracks and was certified Gold in 2012.
