Comedian Louis C.K. has parlayed his stand-up career into success as a television actor, producer, and writer while still entertaining audiences from the stage. Though he was born in Washington, D.C., in 1967, C.K., who has a Mexican heritage, spent his childhood in Mexico, and Spanish was his first language. His Hungarian surname, Székely, is roughly pronounced “see-kay,” which lead to his stage name. C.K.’s family moved to Boston when he was young, and he eventually worked there as an auto mechanic before starting his stand-up career. In his early years, he opened for Jerry Seinfeld and worked as a writer for shows like Late Night with Conan O’Brien and The Chris Rock Show, which lead to two Emmy nominations for comedy writing and a collaboration with Rock on the screenplays Down to Earth and I Think I Love My Wife. Lucky Louie, a sitcom he created, aired on HBO in 2006. In 2009, FX started airing his new show, Louie, which C.K. writes, directs, and stars in. Louie has been a commercial and critical hit, earning C.K. many awards. In addition to his work on the series and regular touring, C.K. also appears in others’ work, recently as a recurring character on Parks and Recreation.
