KRS has been long regarded as one of the foremost lyricists in hip-hop, known for his innovation in lyrical battle styles and generally for being at the forefront of the new era of the genre emerging in the late 1980s when hip-hop took a whole new form beyond being partygoing music. With albums like "Criminal Minded" and "By All Means Necessary" KRS simultaneously ushered in more "hardcore" rap that would take prevalence over the next decade as well as "conscious" rap that focused on social issues facing inner city communities. He has always taken a stance about remaining true to the cultural elements of hip-hop, excellent words of advice from a highly respected and revered figure in his genre. KRS is at the top of many "best of" lists, and for good reason!
