bc4568 May 16, 2013 I love Jimmy Cliff! The Harder They Come soundtrack is one of my desert island records, one that I listen to on nearly a weekly basis. While Bob Marley is pretty much the name synonymous with reggae in America, Jimmy Cliff is every bit his equal in terms of quality music. Songs like “You Can Get It If You Really Want” and “Sitting in Limbo” give off the hope and positive vibes that make reggae great, and he sings them with the kind of emotion that comes from experience. Despite being 65, Jimmy still has plenty of pep in concert, and his voice hasn’t aged a day since his heyday in the 70s. His latest album, last year’s Rebirth, won a Grammy for Reggae Album of the Year, proving that he’s no legacy act, even after all of these years. If you’re a fan of reggae music, you owe it to yourself to dive into Jimmy Cliff’s catalogue.
