Went to see Jack White last night at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles and he totally rocked. He played for almost 2 hours and ran through just about the entire new album Blunderbuss (which I think is awesome) as well as a mix of White Stripes, Raconteurs, and Dead Weather tunes. Last night he played with his all-girl band The Peacocks which consisted of a drummer, keyboardist, upright bass player, pedal steel guitarist, violinist, and backup singer. It took a few songs for the sound mix to get right but overall the band sounded very tight mixing rock, blues, and country into the variety of songs. Jack is an amazing guitarist…his solos were awesome and at times he seemed possessed on the stage. In fact, the lighting and shadows in the first few songs made it seem like something out of a Tim Burton film…although they gradually changed the lighting and backdrops throughout the show which was kind of cool. Overall the show was high energy from the moment Jack and the girls stepped onto the stage…and music was the focus with limited chatter to the crowd. Highlights for me included Love Interruption, Hotel Yorba, Ball & Biscuit…which was an all out blues jam, and of course Seven Nation Army which was easily the highlight of the night…crowd was loving it and Jack was loving it as well. The Shrine holds about 5,000 people so the venue wasn’t too big…even though I was seated toward the back I still felt close enough to feel a part of the action. This show rocked!
