Delaware native George Thorogood played semi-professional baseball when he was in his 20s, but in the 1970s gave up his athletic goals to pursue music. With his band The Destroyers, sometimes called The Delaware Destroyers, Thorogood recorded over a dozen studio albums from 1977 to today. The first two albums, George Thorogood and the Destroyers and Move It On Over, went gold. The albums’ mix of blues and hard rock included covers of Hank Williams’s “Move It On Over” and Bo Diddley’s “Who Do You Love,” two of the band’s biggest hits. In the 1980s, the Destroyers toured with the Rolling Stones and, in 1982, appeared as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live. That same year, the band released its best-known song, “Bad to the Bone,” which has since appeared in countless movies, TV shows, and advertisements. Though the musicians in The Destroyers have changed over the years, drummer Jeff Simon and bassist Billy Blough have been with Thorogood since the 70s. Other current members are guitarist Jim Suhler and saxophone player Buddy Leach.
