To me, Foster the People only has one song, and after seeing the crowd watching them at Outside Lands a couple years back, I think a lot of people feel the same way. In a huge, all-day festival setting like that, you end up watching a lot of bands you've never heard of or wanted to see before. And sometimes you get a pleasant surprise. But Foster the People was the epitome of expected. People up front were aimlessly jumping around without knowing why and everyone in the back seemed to just not be paying attention, waiting for "Pumped Up Kicks," at which they kind of just sighed and then walked off. Don't get me wrong. The band isn't terrible; I'm sure they're trying, and their music is decent. But shaking that radio over-play is just not an easy thing to do. It may take some time and a miracle for Foster the People to get any respect in the music scene, whether they deserve it or not.
