Faster Pussycat, formed in 1986 during the glam metal boom, released its self-titled album debut in 1987 under the Elektra label. In 1989, the band released Wake Me When It’s Over, which was eventually certified as a gold album, boosted by the sales of the popular single “House of Pain.” The album – by far the band’s most successful endeavor – spawned two music videos and a tour with KISS and Mötley Crüe.
The band released Whipped! in 1992, which hit number ninety on the U.S. album charts, even as glam metal was giving way to alternative rock. “Nonstop to Nowhere” reached number thirty-five on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock track chart, and the band made a music video for the song. Despite the successes, the band split up in 1993 and group members moved on to their own projects.
Faster Pussycat got back together briefly in 2001 for a reunion tour, but infighting and differences of opinion in the band’s direction led to another falling out. Taime Downe (lead vocalist) is the only original Faster Pussycat member who is part of the most recent incarnation of the band.
