Dropkick Murphys – New England’s most beloved punk rock band – rose to national prominence after its song “I’m Shipping Up to Boston” from the 2005 album The Warrior’s Code was featured in Martin Scorsese's Academy Award-winning movie The Departed. The song became an anthem for Boston sports teams and local colleges, and sold over one million digital copies without ever appearing in the Hot 100 chart.
Previously, Dropkick Murphys made a name for itself by performing around the Boston area. The band's infusion of Irish bagpipes into its punk music made Dropkick Murphy performances on St. Patrick’s Day some of the more popular shows around and endeared the band to the hearts of the large Irish-American working class.
The band released five albums, including The Warrior’s Code, with Hellcat Records before signing with Warner Brothers Records in 2007. The Meanest of Times, featuring the hit single “The State of Massachusetts,” was the band’s first album with Warner, and it debuted at number twenty on the Billboard charts.
2011’s Going Out in Style saw even more success than Times, debuting at number six on Billboard, officially becoming Dropkick Murphys highest charting album. In January 2013, the band released its eighth album, Signed and Sealed in Blood.
