Delta Rae is a newly formed folk rock band from Durham, North Carolina and consists of a set of three siblings, Ian, Eric, and Brittany Hölljes, as well as Elizabeth Hopkins, Mike McKee, and Grant Emerson. The three siblings came up with the band name from a fictional story their mother was going to write about Delta Rae, a Southern girl, who summons the Greek gods to Earth.
The band released a self-titled EP in 2010 and soon found themselves in a meeting with Seymour Stein, head of Sire Records, who asked the band to sing for him in his office, loved it, and signed Delta Rae on the spot. Carry the Fire, the band’s first major studio album released in 2012, has been critically acclaimed and has seen steady sales numbers.
Delta Rae’s music is gospel-tinged country-rock that features beautiful harmonies and two handfuls of soul. The band’s influences – which are easily heard in Carry the Fire – include James Taylor, Paul Simon, Cat Stevens, and Fleetwood Mac. Delta Rae’s music reflects on the difficulties of growing older, life in Durham, and common human frustrations like unemployment.
Delta Rae is one of the most exciting, new bands around, so get your tickets to see the fun, folk rock band as soon as possible.
