Canadian alt-rock band Cowboy Junkies was formed in Toronto in 1985 by siblings Margo (vocals), Michael (guitar), and Peter Timmins (drums), along with Alan Anton (bass). The members honed their ambient mix of blues, rock, folk, jazz, and country at Toronto pubs and clubs, eventually releasing a blues album, Whites Off Earth Now!!, that was recorded in the Timmins family garage. In 1987, the band recorded the album The Trinity Session at Toronto’s Church of the Holy Trinity. One of the album’s songs was a cover of The Velvet Underground’s “Sweet Jane,” which appeared in the movies Natural Born Killers and The Good Girl. Five of the band's seventeen studio albums have gone platinum or gold in Canada, though only The Trinity Session was a big hit in the U.S. Besides the “Sweet Jane” cover, Cowboy Junkies' biggest hits in Canada have included “Anniversary Song,” “A Common Disaster,” and “Angel Mine.” In 2007, the band re-recorded The Trinity Session as Trinity Revisited, with guest artists Ryan Adams, Vic Chesnutt, Natalie Merchant, and Jeff Bird.
