Coldplay Bio

Coldplay

Alternative rock band Coldplay was formed in 1996 by lead vocalist Chris Martin and lead guitarist Johnny Buckland – both of whom were friends at the University of London. Originally called Pectoralz (and, after that, Starfish), the band renamed themselves Coldplay in 1998, and are currently made up of Martin, Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman, and drummer Will Champion.

Coldplay’s first mega-hit was the single “Yellow,” released in 2000, which came shortly before their debut album Parachutes. Albums to follow included A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002), X&Y (2005), Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (2008), and Mylo Xyloto (2011).

Some of the band’s most successful songs are “Viva La Vida,” which spent 928 weeks on the charts, as well as “Paradise,” “Talk,” and “Violet Hill.”

Coldplay regularly performs at charity events, including Band Aid 20, Live 8, Sound Relief, Hope for Haiti Now, The Secret Policeman's Ball, and the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Apart from their seven Grammy Awards (and 20 nominations), the band has also garnered seven Brit Awards and five MTV Video Music Awards.

Collectively, Coldplay has sold nearly 60 million albums worldwide.

I cannot say enough good things about these guys. I got to see them at the Hollywood Bowl. They gave everyone in the group a wrist band that had LED lights on them. As they played their songs, the lights would illuminate and change color depending on the beat and the song. They also played a song in the middle of the crowd. These guys know how to put on a show and are a must see if you are at all a fan of their music.

When I heard music from "Back to the Future" while fighting for my place 20 metres from the stage, I haven't excpected it would be my most memorable excitement I've ever felt. Then four guys appeared on the main stage of Heineken Open'er Festival in Poland and the time of my (music) life began. From then unreleased "Hurts like Heaven" (I had heard it as a bootleg) to modern classics like "Yellow" or "The Scientist", they reminded me my whole childish existence, when they formed the band, till my first unhappy love stories. From dreams of wonderful future of being adult till hesitations while making first big life decisions, Chris Martin and his friends were recording the soundtrack of my adolescence. With their every new hit (not to mention one of the best album ever - i.e. "Viva La Vida"), they made me more affectionate, mature and confident, because no matter what kind of problem I had, they were always to comfort me. And after some time, I came for their next concert in Poland - just before that I had found a girl of my dreams and thanks to her I began to understand what I really wanted to achieve in my life. She "FIX"ed ME. And, moreover, I might say I have four friends who plays the best music in the world!!! :D

I saw Coldplay at the United Center last August and was blown away. If there's anything Chris Martin knows how to do, it's how to please a crowd. When he "messed up" the verses to the song "Paradise" he had his band completely stop and restart the song - but he did so in a funny, graceful way! He got everyone singing along and waving their neon-flashing wristbands that were given at the door. An experience of a lifetime, and I would definitely pay to see them again.

With the long history of Coldplay, it is hard to accurately describe their musical style with one word or sentence. They are constantly changing, being influenced by other bands and also influencing others. But it's sufficient to say that they are vibrant. Their innovative plays with various musical instruments are one of the reasons that I want to see them in concerts. Also if you read their lyrics, Martin can play with words in a very interesting way, such as the famous "Viva la Vida" and "Trouble" in their very first album. I would love to see Chris Martin jumping around during their live performances, and here the compilation of their music from different eras.

Coldplay is one of my generations greatest musical talents. Each and every album they have made produces hit after hit after hit. As a UCLA student when they performed at UCLA last summer it was a night I won't forget. They gave us all a free show. An unforgettable show. Their music was incredible, the stage and the effects were beautiful and it was truly a sight to behold. Can't wait for them to come back to LA would love to see them again!

Coldplay never gets old! They always have new stuff coming out and each album has its own theme. I think it is amazing how they manage to have such an awesome album with every album release. I saw their concert at Hollywood Bowl. The staff at the Bowl gave each ticket holder a LED affixed wrist band that lights up and blinks when they played some of their songs and it was amazing to see the whole bowl enveloped in an array of colorful LED Lights. The Coldplay Concert truly took my breath away. AMAZING! Enuff said.
