The Chi-Lites are a smooth soul vocal quartet from Chicago that saw most of its success in the 70s. Singer-songwriter Eugene Record led the group to eleven number one hits during its golden era, including 1971’s “Have You Seen Her” and in 1972 the group scored its first number one hit with “Oh Girl.” Other hits during the 70s included “Homely Girl,” “There Will Never Be Any Peace (Until God is Seated at the Conference Table,” and “Toby.”
By the late 70s, financial problems forced the band to split up and the original members didn’t reunite until 1980. The group managed to record two more successful singles “Hot on a Thing (Called Love)” and “Bottoms Up,” which served as the group’s last Top Ten hit.
Chi-Lites performances served as learning tools for bands like Hall & Oates, Final Solution, and the Jackson 5, among many other artists that were influenced by the soul quartet. Chi-Lites tickets still sell out today, especially since they perform in smaller venues.
